The Girl Child Initiative,One Year Celebration, a view of the past, and the future in view.
The journey so far hasn’t been free, isn’t devoid of criticism but we have made it thus far. Our focus being the girl child isn’t a form of discrimination, rather a form of humanism. In the last one year, since it’s inception, this NGO has arrived relentlessly to tend to the needs of girls around the world. And all this we would share with you.
To start with being a girl is cool, being a girl is cute, being a girl is super but it isn’t always easy, she moves from that stage to a lady, who then becomes a wife and a mother. Life itself isn’t always easy. For no good reason, girls are not always given the same chances as boys. For example,in some countries, girls are not offered an education. In fact, statistics has it that 66million girls around the world are out of school! How alarming and pathetic!!
Have you ever witnessed or been in a situation and you were told that you couldn’t do something because you were “a girl”?. Have you witnessed or ever been told that a particular work is not meant for you because you were “a girl”?. Don’t let us forget in a hurry that people once said the very same thing to Amelia Earhart when she decided that she wanted to be a pilot. In fact, the first female astronaut, Sally Ride, was told the same thing. These people mentioned did not listen to the crowd. They followed their dreams and their hearts and they achieved their goals. You can too.
Girls are often in one way or the other, limited because of various subjections from parents, relatives, and even the government. Most persons, even the media often focus on beauty as a girl’s outward or physical appearance rather than her true nature. True beauty doesn’t come from the outside. It comes from within. What defines real beauty is not in hairs, eyes, shoes, bags or any physical features, rather, it comes from within love, kindness, generosity and good deeds that leaves others in awe of such person.
It is our utmost desire and goal at GCI to help the girl child, to tend to her needs,to let her voice be heard and to help her achieve her dreams. It is our aim to project the Girl child to the world, not as superior to their male counterparts but rather as a specie, clothed in strength and dignity, one who laughs without fear of the future.
To this end, GCI calls on every individuals, every parents, organisations, media outlets, and governmental agencies and bodies to come together and help the Girl child. These girls are the beauty and spirit of our nation. Let’s all join hands together to save them and stop their exploitation.
We are happy to Celebrate the first year of celebration with you, the birth of yesterday is something great.
We wish you a happy and fruitful year ahead.
Love from The Girl Child Initiative,
